During the cold winter season, I often find that my lips become really dry, making it nearly impossible to apply lipstick. The best way to deal with dry lips is to treat them as you would dry skin – gently exfoliate a few times per week and moisturise on a daily basis. For the exfoliation step, I like to make my own lip scrub, as it literally takes two minutes and is a lot cheaper than buying one in a store. As it’s nearly Christmas, I decided to share my recipe for a festive peppermint flavour lip scrub.
DIY Peppermint Lip Scrub
3 Tbsp coconut palm sugar (or any soft brown sugar)
1 and 1/2 Tbsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp agave syrup or honey
3-5 drops Peppermint essential oil
Combine all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix well. Store in an airtight container – I used a empty moisturiser tub.
To keep my lips moisturised, I use a lip balm throughout the day and overnight, alternating between these four favourites:
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour lip balm, which I only use overnight after exfoliating, as it is a really thick consistency that takes a few hours to sink in.
Korres Olive lip balm, which is lightly scented and made from natural ingredients. I can’t seem to find it for sale anywhere online though, so I’m going to have to make this one last!
L’Occitane lip balm has been a favourite of mine for a few years now. I love the packaging and it has the perfect consistency – just thick enough to give a good layer of moisture, without being sticky on your lips (if that makes sense?!).
Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm is something I discovered in France and it has a really unique texture that simultaneously moisturises your lips, while giving them a matte look.
